There is definitely history in the music with Beyonce's 'End of time' track on her new album titled '4'. Beyonce states in interviews that she was inspired by Fela, the pioneer of afro beat music, when making the new album. She manages to keep this track very much 'Beyonce' with her big vocals, contemporary RnB, funk and jazz; but the afro fusion of pulsating drums and horns, synonymous with Fela's groove, is what makes this track for me...
Check out the remix ft Kyrel...I *heart* THIS TRACK...
Watch her buss some African moves at Glasto!
Let's not forget her hubby Jay Z sampled Fela's 1975 track 'Water no get enemy', on the track 'Roc Boys' for the American Gangster soundtrack (2008). Fast forward a couple of years and he is now the executive producer to the Broadway musical, Fela! alongside Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.
Oh my goodness, I HAVE GOT to go & see Fela! Been meaning to go for ages, but this post has sealed the deal! Love it :)
